Fund Launches Its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan
On the morning of 13 March 2026, something meaningful happened at the Strathmore Educational Trust Staff Provident Fund, not just another meeting, but a genuine milestone. The Fund officially launched its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, gathering current and former trustees in a room that felt less like a boardroom and more like a homecoming and a celebration.
The presence of former trustees was no accident. Their presence at the launch was a quiet but powerful endorsement: the Fund is in good hands, and it's heading somewhere worth going.
What's Changing
On the investment side, the Fund is moving beyond its traditional reliance on government securities. Real estate, private equity, and offshore equities are now part of the picture, with a target return of inflation plus 3.5% annually. Your retirement savings will be working harder.
For members who have sometimes felt kept at arm's length, the Communication pillar brings welcome news. Real-time account access, WhatsApp and SMS updates, open engagement forums, and annual satisfaction surveys are all coming. You will know how your fund is performing, clearly, and regularly.
Operationally, the Fund has set a firm target: benefit payments processed within 15 days. No unnecessary delays. No chasing paperwork. Just a fund that delivers when it matters most.
On governance, trustee term limits, board evaluations, and succession planning are now embedded in how the Fund is led, ensuring strong, accountable leadership well into the future.
The Road Ahead
Progress against this strategy will be tracked, measured, and reported back to members at annual meetings. The Abridged Strategic Plan is available for review, and your feedback will continue to shape how the Fund grows.
Thirty-five years of stewardship have brought the Fund to this point. The 2025–2030 Strategic Plan is the promise of what comes next, a retirement future built on transparency, ambition, and an unwavering commitment to every single member.
The next chapter has begun. And it was built with you in mind.
Built around you
At the center of the new strategy is a commitment that every member deserves to hold the Fund to:
"Safeguarding members' retirement by promoting financial freedom."
This isn't a slogan. It's the standard against which every decision over the next five years will be measured, from how your savings are invested, to how quickly you receive your benefits, to how often you hear from us.
The plan is structured around five pillars: Investments, Audit Risk and Compliance, Communication and Member Engagement, Operations, and Governance. Together, they represent a Fund that is not standing still.
Looking After the Whole Member
Perhaps the most exciting announcement from the launch was the introduction of a Post-Retirement Medical Fund (PRMF), a recognition that a dignified retirement isn't just about money in the bank. Healthcare security after retirement matters, and the Fund is stepping up to address it.

#TukoForm na IRR Clinic
" One statement. One conversation. One step closer to the retirement you deserve.”
The #TukoForm na IRR Clinic and the Retirement Conversations That Were Long Overdue
There is something different about a conversation that is just between two people. No raised hands. No waiting your turn. No holding back a question because it feels too personal for a room full of colleagues. Just you, an expert, your retirement statement laid out on the table, and the freedom to ask exactly what you have been wondering about for years.
That is precisely what over 100 members of staff experienced at Strathmore University from 6th to 8th April 2026, as the Strathmore Educational Trust Staff Provident Fund ran its #TukoFonnaIRR Clinic, three days of dedicated, one-on-one sessions where every member got to sit down, open their statement, and finally understand what it all means.
No two conversations were the same. That was the whole point.
Your Statement. Line by Line. No Glossing Over.
Most of us have received a retirement fund statement at some point and done the same thing, skimmed the total, filed it away, and quietly hoped the numbers were heading in the right direction. The IRR Clinic was built to end that habit.
Each member sat down privately with a facilitator and worked through their personal retirement statement in detail. Not a generic example. Not a hypothetical scenario. Their actual statement, their contributions, their fund balance, their Internal Rate of Return, and what all of it means for the retirement they are building toward.
For many, it was a revelation. Numbers that had always felt abstract suddenly had names and timelines attached to them. The IRR, often one of the least understood figures on any fund statement, was explained not just in technical terms but in real, personal ones.
What rate of return has your money been earning?
Is it keeping pace with inflation?
What does that mean for you specifically, given your age, your contribution level, and your retirement goals?
These are the questions that a statement alone cannot answer. But a conversation can.
The Questions Nobody Usually Gets to Ask
When a conversation is private, people get honest. Away from the group, members asked the things they had never quite found the right moment to raise. Why does this figure look different from last year? Am I contributing enough to retire comfortably? What would my payout look like if I retired five years earlier than planned? What happens to my savings if my employment situation changes?
These are not the kinds of questions that get raised in a boardroom or a general members meeting. But they are exactly the questions that matter most when you are trying to plan a life — and they deserve real, personalized answers rather than a footnote in a brochure.
PERSONALIZED ATTENTION
We did not just answer, we listened, guided, and where necessary, gently challenged assumptions that members had been holding onto for far too long. The result was not just information. It was clarity.
What the three days ultimately reinforced is that retirement is not a collective experience, it is one of the most personal financial journeys a person will ever take. Your statement tells your story. Your contributions, your growth rate, your projected balance at retirement, none of it looks exactly like your colleague's, and it should not be treated as though it does.
The #TukoFonnaIRR Clinic honored that reality. By sitting with each member individually and walking through their statement page by page, the Fund sent a message that went beyond numbers and calculations: your retirement matters to us personally, not just as a line in a report.
A Commitment That Goes Beyond Three Days
This clinic is not a once-off gesture. It sits squarely within the Fund's 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, which places member education, personalized engagement, and financial transparency at its core. The vision is a membership that does not just contribute to the Fund but truly understands and owns their retirement journey, statement in hand.
Over 100 staff walked out of those sessions better informed, more confident, and perhaps most importantly, more in control of their own financial futures.
That is what #TukoFonnaIRR was always about.
The Strathmore Educational Trust Staff Provident Fund is committed to empowering every member with the knowledge and tools to plan for a secure and dignified retirement. Look out for upcoming one-on-one advisory sessions and member engagement forums near you.
